The Power of the Pause – Give Yourself A Break
About June is the time of the year when all the things you wanted to do at the beginning of the year start pressing in around you. Your kids are almost out of school for the summer and your house still looks like a tornado hit it, despite your goal to organize and clean shop. Just when the June gloom starts burning off, it becomes clear that we have two choices. We can live in the power of the pause, or we can be halted. Unfortunately, I learned that the hard way. You see, I have this habit of going and going and going, as I am sure a lot of you go-getter gals do. It usually serves us so well that we don’t even question whether it is the right thing to do, at the moment. In fact, on an average day, my motto is to be in action because action brings clarity. By June, I am, decidedly, in need of a lesson on the Power of the Pause.
Why is there power in the pause?
Let me back up….why not just go and go and go? Well, that is the lesson I learned the hard way. Because, dear grasshopper, my body told me…If you don’t pause, you will be forced to pause through burnout, illness, or disaster. That sounds dramatic and dismal. The deal is that it is just that. There is zero power in being halted. Your body, your world, heck, the universe will halt you and when it does it is dramatic and dismal. The good news is that you don’t have to do that. You can find your power in the pause.
You can avoid most of that nasty stuff and transform the rest. The power to decide if and how you go through burnout, illness, and disaster is at your fingertips. It is found in your decision to stop and breath and pause. Bring out your observer self, take a break and find your power of the pause.
